Amanda's Story

Hi!  I'm Amanda. I was diagnosed with scoliosis in 2014.  I was in the beginning of my third grade year when I got my first back brace. I had to wear the brace day and night for two years!  After a couple of braces came and went, I stopped wearing them and continued to live with scoliosis treatment free.

However,  in December of 2019, my life with scoliosis took a huge turn.  I fractured my spine in what would become my last soccer game ever.  After months of therapy, numerous Dr. appointments, and debilitation I decided that surgery was my best option first both my scoliosis and fracture.

I went on to have my first surgery in October 2020, during the height of the pandemic.  At the time of my surgery the curve in my spine was over 100 degrees, which is extremely rare.

I had a second surgery in November 2021 where all the hardware from the previous surgery had to be replaced due to infection.

During the journey I've learned that it's important to stay strong, be resilient and to keep moving forward.   With the support of volunteers, friends and family I've Got Your Back Foundation will be a way to give back to others facing medical and emotional challenges.
